Prior to the Funeral

Support, guidance, and space to make the right decisions—for you.

At Perry & Phillips, we understand that when someone is approaching the end of life or has just passed away, it can be an emotional and uncertain time. You may feel overwhelmed, unsure of what to do next, or simply need a calm voice to talk to. That’s why we’re here—to guide, to support, and to help you make decisions at your own pace.

This page outlines the key steps that typically happen before a funeral takes place, and how we support you through each one.

When Death Is Expected

If a loved one is approaching the end of their life, whether at home, in hospital, or in a care setting, we can begin gently helping you prepare.

You’re welcome to call us ahead of time for advice and reassurance. We’re here to offer guidance on what to expect, what decisions may lie ahead, and how to make things as smooth and dignified as possible.

Knowing your options in advance can bring calm in a time of uncertainty—and can give you and your family the chance to make personal choices that truly reflect your wishes.

When Someone Has Died

If your loved one has just passed away, please call us on 017467 65255.
We are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

We will arrange to bring your loved one into our care as soon as possible, with the utmost dignity and respect. Whether the death has occurred at home, in a care home, or in hospital, we will liaise with the appropriate professionals to ensure everything is handled smoothly and sensitively.

Registering the Death

In most cases, the death must be registered within five days in England and Wales.

This is done by appointment at the local Registry Office. We will clearly explain what documents you need and help you arrange this step. If needed, we can provide contact details for the local registrar and support you with any questions.

You’ll receive a death certificate, and the paperwork required for us to proceed with funeral arrangements.

Arranging the Funeral

Once your loved one is in our care and the death has been registered, we’ll invite you to meet with a member of our experienced team—either in person at one of our funeral homes (Bridgnorth, Highley, or Cleobury Mortimer), at your own home, or over the phone or video call if you prefer.

During this meeting, we will guide you through the process of arranging the funeral, including:

We are here to empower you, not overwhelm you.
Some families want to be involved in every detail. Others would prefer us to take care of most things on their behalf. We adapt to your needs, providing as much or as little support as you want.

A Calming Presence, A Reassuring Guide

One of the things families tell us time and time again is how calm, respectful, and steady our team are. We’re not just here to deliver a service—we’re here to walk with you through this moment, offering peace of mind and compassionate guidance.

“We don’t take control—we give it back to families, gently and confidently, so they can focus on what matters most.”

If you have questions about any part of the process—before or after a death—please don’t hesitate to call. There’s no such thing as a silly question, and no pressure to commit to anything.

At Perry & Phillips, we’re here to guide you, empower you, and support you every step of the way.
