At Perry & Phillips, our story spans four generations — a legacy of service, care, and trust that began in the heart of Shropshire and continues to this day. Established in 1835, our name has become synonymous with dignity, respect, and genuine compassion for every family we have the privilege to serve.
Our heritage is our foundation, and it guides everything we do. For nearly two centuries, families across Bridgnorth and the surrounding areas have turned to Perry & Phillips during their most difficult moments, finding reassurance in the continuity of a family service provider that truly cares.
But while our history matters deeply, how we move forward matters even more. Each generation of the Adams family has sought not only to uphold the standards set before them but to shape the future of funeral care, with compassion, integrity, and a belief that our role extends beyond the funeral itself.
That belief has led to national change.
Our Funeral Director, John Adams, became National President of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), representing over 4,000 funeral homes across the UK. During his presidency, he led a powerful campaign to make education on death, dying, and bereavement part of the national curriculum, ensuring that young people across the country are better equipped to understand loss, grief, and empathy.
What began as a conversation within our services, about the need to better support society in dealing with grief, became a national movement, gathering support from bereavement charities, parliamentarians, and educational leaders. That campaign has now succeeded (15th July 2025), with new guidance confirming that grief education will be taught in schools across England, a historic milestone that reflects the depth of purpose behind everything we do.
For us, this achievement isn’t just a professional milestone; it symbolises the very essence of who we are, a family and a service provider that believes our duty goes beyond funerals. We are here to care for the living as well as honour the deceased, to strengthen our communities, and to build a more compassionate society for generations to come.
